The 9-5 workday is optimized for the factory, around the notion that input equals output. 8 hours of work produces 8 hours of results.

Today though, in a lot of the work we do, input does not equal output. We can work for days and get nothing done, or we can work for an hour and get weeks done. We’re more like the factory owner, who can make one right decision that increases the production output 100 times - which no line worker could ever do.
